UNITED WAY BBQ COOKOFF
We'll start the day off with a BBQ Cook Off Competition with United Way of Morgan County. With a small, separate admission fee of $20, you'll get to eat all the barbecue that your innards can hold. You'll feel good on the inside, not only because you've eaten some lip-smacking barbecue, but also because about 88% off all proceeds will go back to the Morgan County community. That's right folks, you can help the local community while helping yourself to some excellent food. Pretty sweet, right? You'll even get the opportunity to vote on your favorite BBQ for the People's Choice Award.
If you're more of the competitive type, you can even enter the competition for a modest $100 entry fee. In addition to the People’s Choice Award, there will be Team Winners selected by a Panel of Judges. Prize categories and prize dollars will be determined by how many teams are entered and what they plan to cook.
To participate in the competition, or for more information, contact Rhonda Wingenter at 256-552-1722 or by email at rhonda.wingenter@ipaper.com.

CHRIS JANSON
Warner Bros. Records/Warner Music Nashville country artist Chris Janson was born to entertain crowds. Last year, his breakthrough #1 Platinum single “Buy Me A Boat” was the 7th bestselling country song of the year, although his professional music career began more than 10 years ago.
The “Holdin’ Her” singer has written multiple top-charting hits including “Truck Yeah” (Tim McGraw), “That's How I'll Always Be” (Tim McGraw), “I Love This Life” (LoCash), and over 25 additional hit songs recorded by a long list of established artists.
Janson has been nominated for multiple awards and won Country Song of the Year (“Buy Me a Boat”) at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Janson is currently featured in the Country Music Hall of Fame as part of the ACM Gallery. He plays every instrument on stage, and is best known for his signature harmonica playing.
Additionally, Janson has played the Grand Ole Opry more than 145 times to date, and made numerous television appearances including: The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, CONAN, The Today Show, ACM Awards and ACCA Awards.
DONICA KNIGHT
Sun-kissed sweet iced tea, vividly-colored autumn leaves, rowdy and raucous Saturday college football games and the magical warmth of the family-filled holiday season bring to mind images of down-home, small-town charm and laid back, easy living… A place where everybody knows your name and the best things in life are free. With her roots firmly planted in the rich clay of her Alabama hometown, just outside of Montgomery, acclaimed singer-songwriter and entertainer, Donica Knight embodies all of these images: part sassy “tomboy” and sports fanatic, part southern supermodel and sweetheart, and 100% driven, talented and seasoned professional. With the January 2016 release of her brand new EP, the aptly titled Can’t Buy a Southern Girl, Donica is showcasing her unique blend of Southern rock, country, blues and old East Memphis music. BRANDON HENSON
Born and raised in the small town of Decatur, Alabama, Brandon Henson, early in life never visioned himself as a touring country artist. Growing up as any country boy would, Brandon enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding horses, playing sports, and racing motocross. Through his high school years, Brandon engaged in Football, as his favorite sport where he played Tight End/Wide Reciever, as well as being apart of the Mount Hope High School FFA team.
Upon graduation from high school in 2007, Brandon had no idea what his life and future would hold, as well as not knowing which way to turn for the next chapter.
Starting at Calhoun Community College the following fall, Brandon studied the Basic Subjects of Business, before becoming a father to his son, Cayden Lane, in 2009. With the duties of juggling being a father, work-life and school, Brandon decided to post-pone his education and enter the industrial workforce full time. Shortly after the decision was made, Brandon welcomed his second child into the world, his daughter, Barkley Rae, whom was born in 2011. As life went about it's ways, Brandon was happy, full of joy and excitement, and loved being a father to his children. [READ MORE]
